The J2 subclade of Haplogroup J (see entries at Wikipedia and ISOGG) arose in the northern Fertile Cresent, roughly 18,500 ±3500 years ago.  It is widespread in western and central Asia, the Middle East, Northern and Eastern Africa, and southern and eastern Europe.  It is spread thinly across northern Europe and appears to have penetrated as far as Britain by the Neolithic.

1Tested at FTDNA, but Markers 26-37 unknown, unless this individual contacts me or joins the BIDDLE project.  He has one additional difference w/#494474 and the STROUPs, in Panel 3, but I can't tell what it is.
2Tested at Ancestry.com.  If you are one of these, please transfer your results to FTDNA and join the project.
Individuals here are a tight genetic match, tight enough to descend from the same immigrant.  Only Kit #494474 is an official member of the BIDDLE project, so I would like to invite the others to join.  The reason for the four STROUPs, who belong to the STRAUB project, is that they have an NPE.  They do not match their paper family, but are a tight match with these BIDDLEs.
Given their genetic distance from the modal haplotype at 37 markers (GD=14), it's not suprising that this haplotype is rare.  The major obstacle for them getting more matches is DYS385b=18 (bright yellow table cells) because less than one percent of people tested are 13/18 at DYS385a/b.

What constitutes a match?
Matches in other surnames are usually mere coincidence, so please ignore them — I'll let you know when you shouldn't!
For 12 markers:  9 or less is a non-relative; 10-12, please see this table compiled by FTDNA.
For 25 markers:  21 or less is a non-relative; 22-25, please see this table compiled by FTDNA.
For 37 markers:  31 or less is a non-relative; 32-37, please see this table compiled by FTDNA.
For 67 markers:  57 or less is a non-relative; 58-67, please see this table compiled by FTDNA.
For 111 markers:  100 or less is a non-relative; 101-111, please see this table compiled by FTDNA.
For any test:  0 matching markers, please contact NASA.
