  • Notes
    • McGrew, Russ. Remembrances. Email to Howard Wayne Graham, abt 2001, re: the Scotia Hollow neighborhood of Jefferson Township in the late 1920s: "There were two more houses before the Xing. The first was of HOODs. ... The next was a Parsons house. ... There lived an ancient couple - she I think was called Sis & I believe he was Frankie??? They had two bachelor sons (?) "Big Jack" was a guard at the distillery & Walter (Watty-gyke) did the house keeping. The hollow narrowed from the Parsons to the Xing. Up a bit and across the road was an old tipple and coal chute - the remains of work in pits that burrowed back from the "strips". I recall that there were still some operations there - there were pit cars still operating - and we would slip back into the old mines on occasion."
